Boron is one of the 109 elements that make up the planet and is fundamental to life. The common element in all borates is Boron, distinguished by the symbol “B”. It is found in trace amounts in water, soil, plants, animals and the food we eat. The most common and most important of the boron compounds is borax, in the form of pentahydrate, decahydrate and anhydrous, as well as boric acid. Together with boron mineral concentrates, they account for majority of the total quantity of boron compounds consumed.

Where is Boron Found?

The primary source of both boron and borates is the mining of boron-containing minerals such as Colemanite, Ulexite, Tincal, and Kernite. Only certain deposits in few countries can be mined economically. The major boron reserves are located in Turkey,Russia and USA. Small deposits are also found in Argentina, Chile, China, and Peru. Turkey possesses roughly two thirds of the world's known boron minerals reserves and is the largest exporter of these minerals.
